The Wichita Eagle recently posted an article describing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a new consumer website and 24-hour call center to help prepare for the Health Insurance Marketplace, according to a news release.
This fall, consumers will be able to go to the website to sign up for coverage and see if they qualify for government subsidies. The site will have options for individuals and small businesses. Right now, only limited information is available.
The online insurance marketplaces are part of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Enrollment in plans is scheduled to be available starting Oct. 1. Under the health law, nearly everyone will be required to have health insurance as of Jan. 1, 2014.
The 24-hour call center services will have information in English, Spanish and more than 150 other languages through an interpretation and translation service, according to the release. The call center can be reached at 1-800-318-2596; hearing impaired callers using TTY/TDD technology can dial 1-855-889-4325.
